Outside Insulation and Backfill: May 22, 2019

 

Leif adds 2" of Styrofoam insulation to the outside of the foundation walls.  This provides equivalent of R-10 protection.  He is also installing 2" of Styrofoam insulation on the inside of what will be living space.  That will give a total of R-20, plus the walls themselves.

 

Bud has installed the sewer connection, which runs through the base of the garage and out to the alley.  Stein talks to the inspector.
 

 

 

 

 

 

When the inspection passes, Bud backfills to the foundation walls with sand. Two cleanouts for the storm drain join the cleanout for the sewer.  All will eventually be at the driveway's grade.

Then Bud moves the dirt -- really mud after all the recent rain and snow -- off the driveway.



 

Finally, Bud clears the path for the driveway base.  Time to order more gravel.
